Abstract
A system for detecting reproduction of barcodes (12) includes providing a barcode which contains data; providing a copy-evident background (14); capturing an image of the barcode and the copy-evident background; locating and decoding the barcode; detecting copy introduced changes in the copy-evident background; and authenticating the barcode if the copy-evident background has not been copied.
Claims9
A system for detecting reproduction of barcodes comprising:
- an image capture device for capturing an image of a barcode that contains data printed on a copy-evident background;
- a microprocessor for locating the barcode in the image and decoding the barcode;
- wherein the micro-processor detects any copy introduced changes in the copy-evident background;
- and
- wherein the micro-processor authenticates the barcode if no copy-introduced changes in the copy-evident background are detected.
