Increasing formation strength through the use of temperature and temperature coupled particulate to increase near borehole hoop stress and fracture gradients

A method of increasing near-wellbore hoop stress so as to increase the apparent rock strength in the near-wellbore in a subsurface formation so as to mitigate or remediate lost circulation events , the method comprising:

• a) cooling a near-wellbore region of the formation, wherein the near-wellbore region has a treated thickness d;
• b) allowing a lost circulation material to enter the cooled near-wellbore region;
• and
• c) heating the near-wellbore region.
