Methods and Apparatus for Determining Downhole Fluid Parameters

A method, comprising:

• disposing a downhole tool in a fluid in a wellbore, the downhole tool including a sensor comprising a heater and a temperature sensor, the fluid flowing at a velocity outside of a velocity range measurable via a spinner flowmeter, the fluid comprising one of particulates, paraffin and asphaltenes;
• determining a thermal property between the heater and the fluid via the sensor;
• and
• based on the thermal property, determining the velocity of the fluid.

A method, comprising:

• disposing a downhole tool in a wellbore, the downhole tool including a sensor comprising a heater and a temperature sensor, wherein the sensor is capable of sensing fluid flow having of a velocity of about zero meters per second to about ten meters per second;
• producing fluid from a subterranean formation adjacent the wellbore;
• obtaining a response of the sensor;
• and
• based on the response, determining the velocity of the fluid.
