Abstract
Disclosed are various turbulent, corrosion-resistant heat exchangers used in desiccant air conditioning systems.
Claims19
A support structure for use in a heat exchanger in a desiccant air conditioning system, comprising:
- two molded support plates attached to each other back-to-back;
- each support plate comprising an array of integrally-formed raised features on a front side thereof for providing a bonding surface for a membrane and for mixing or turbulating flow of a liquid desiccant flowing between the front side of the support plate and the membrane;
- each support plate also comprising a plurality of integrally-formed raised features on a back side thereof for setting a distance from the other support plate, mixing or turbulating flow of a heat transfer fluid flowing between the support plates, and providing a bonding surface for attaching the support plates;
- and
- each support plate also including one or more openings through which the liquid desiccant can be introduced on the front side of the plate and one or more openings for collecting the liquid desiccant.
2 more elements
A two-way heat exchanger for transferring heat from a first liquid to a second liquid, comprising:
- a plurality of plate assemblies in a generally parallel arrangement defining a plurality of channels, each between adjacent plate assemblies, said channels alternating between first and second channels for separate flow therethrough of the first and second liquids, respectively,
- wherein each plate assembly comprises a support plate utilizing a mesh turbulator for mixing or turbulating liquid flowing through a channel defined said support plate and a support plate in an adjacent plate assembly and for setting a distance between the support plates, an inlet opening for flow of a liquid into said channel, an outlet opening for discharging liquid from said channel, and a seal structure for allowing passage of only one of said first and second liquids through said channel.
A heat exchanger for use in a desiccant air conditioning system, comprising:
- a plurality of membrane-plate assemblies facing each other in a generally parallel arrangement and being spaced apart to define air gaps therebetween through which air to be treated by the desiccant air conditioning system can flow, each of said membrane-plate assemblies comprising (a) a plate structure, and (b) two membranes, each facing an opposite side of the plate structure and spaced apart from the plate structure to define a gap therebetween through which a liquid desiccant can flow,
- wherein each plate structure includes a metal heat transfer pipe to transfer heat to or from the liquid desiccant, said metal heat transfer pipe encapsulated by a non-corrosive material to prevent corrosion of the metal heat transfer pipe by the liquid desiccant.
