Abstract
A rod or wire having discontinuous cross sections and implements made from such rod or wire are disclosed. The perimeters of the cross section of the rod or wire are not circumferences nor rectangles nor squares, and have either at least two curves going in different directions, curves and straight lines, or straight lines going in different directions—but in the latter case not being regular polygons.
Claims18
A structural component for constructing household products, said structural member comprising:
- an elongated member having a longitudinal axis and a discontinuous cross section perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, said discontinuous cross section comprising:
- a perimeter along the external outline of the discontinuous cross section, said perimeter being composed of at least one of the following sets of lines;
- a combination of at least one curve and at least one straight line;
- a combination of straight lines which do not form a regular polygon;
- and
- a combination of curves with at least one of the curves curving in a different direction from at least one of the other curve or curves;
- and
- a combination of at least two curves which intersect at at least one corner.
A structural component made of metal for constructing household products, said structural component being a component of the household products and comprising:
- an elongated member made from metal rod or wire and having a longitudinal axis, said elongated member being bent with said longitudinal axis lying in a common, imaginary plane, said elongated member having a discontinuous cross section perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, said discontinuous cross section comprising:
- a central portion having an opposing first pair of symmetrical lines defining the perimeter of said central portion, said central portion having a first symmetrical shape;
- and
- equal end portions on opposite sides of said central portion, said end portions having parallel longitudinal axes lying in the same imaginary plane as said longitudinal axis of said central portion, and respective opposing second pairs of equal symmetrical lines defining the respective perimeters of said end portions;
- said opposing first pair of symmetrical lines of said central portion and said opposing second pairs of equal symmetrical lines of said equal end portions merging at respective parallel intersections;
- said structural component being symmetrical about said same imaginary plane.
A utilitarian product made at least in part of a structural component for constructing household products, said utilitarian product comprising:
- a structural component of said utilitarian product and comprising at least one elongated member made from metal and having a longitudinal axis, each of said at least one elongated member being bent with said longitudinal axis laying in a common, imaginary plane, said at least one elongated member having a discontinuous cross section perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, said discontinuous cross section comprising:
- a central portion having an opposing first pair of symmetrical lines defining the perimeter of said central portion, said central portion having a first symmetrical shape, said central portion having a longitudinal axis coincidental with said longitudinal axis of said at least one elongated member;
- and
- equal end portions on opposite sides of said central portion, said end portions having parallel longitudinal axes lying in the same imaginary plane as said longitudinal axis of said central portion, and respective opposing second pairs of symmetrical lines defining the respective perimeters of said end portions;
- and
- said opposing first pairs of symmetrical lines of said central portion and said opposing second pairs of symmetrical lines of said equal end portions merging at respective parallel intersections;
- and
- a support structure for supporting said at least one elongated member for enabling said at least one elongated member to perform a utilitarian function.
