Abstract
In one example, a watercraft, such as a kayak, is provided that includes a body, at least a portion of the body having a unitary one-piece construction. The body includes a hull and a cockpit that is integral with the hull, and the cockpit includes a seating area. Finally, the example watercraft includes a backrest connected to the body near the seating area and rotatable between a substantially vertical orientation and a substantially horizontal orientation, and movement of the backrest is limited to rotational motion.

A watercraft, comprising:
- a body, at least a portion of the body comprising a unitary one-piece construction, and the body including:
- a hull;
- and
- a cockpit that is integral with the hull, the cockpit including a seating area;
- and
- a backrest connected to the body proximate the seating area and rotatable between a substantially vertical orientation and a substantially horizontal orientation, and wherein movement of the backrest is limited to rotational motion when the backrest is connected to the body.
A kayak, comprising:
- a body that includes a bow and a stern whose respective shapes are substantially different from each other, at least a portion of the body comprising a unitary one-piece construction that is substantially hollow, and the body including:
- a hull;
- and
- a cockpit that is integral with the hull, the cockpit including a seating area;
- and
- a backrest connected directly to the body proximate the seating area and rotatable between a substantially vertical orientation and a substantially horizontal orientation, and wherein movement of the backrest is limited to rotational motion when the backrest is connected to the body.
A kayak, comprising:
- a body, at least a portion of the body comprising a unitary one-piece construction that is substantially hollow, and the body including:
- a hull;
- and
- a cockpit that is integral with the hull, the cockpit including a seating area;
- a backrest rotatably connected directly to the body proximate the seating area and movable between a substantially vertical orientation and a substantially horizontal orientation, wherein the backrest and body each include a respective element of a hinge mechanism that enables rotation of the backrest;
- and
- first and second straps, each strap connectible to the body and to the backrest.
