A method for delivering video over a network comprising:
- transmitting, by a hosting service, compressed video comprising an initial set of encoded I-tiles followed by a sequence of encoded P-tiles/frames over a communication channel to a client device configured with a decoder for decompressing the encoded tiles/frames, wherein each P-tile/frame is encoded to be dependent on a previous P-tile/frame when no packet loss occurs;
- detecting, by the hosting service, packet loss indicated by a message transmitted from the client device to the hosting service via a feedback channel, the message including an indication of one or more specific tiles/frames affected by the packet loss;
- and
- responsive to the message, transmitting a new set of encoded I-tiles to the client device.

- responsive to the detecting of the packet loss, encoding, by the hosting service, a next tile/frame dependent upon a last P-tile/frame that was successfully received by the decoder.
