Abstract
Systems and methods for crossing stenosis, partial occlusions, or complete occlusions within a body lumen. The systems generally include an elongate member such as a hollow guidewire that houses a rotatable and translatable drive shaft. The drive shaft typically has a distal portion that is advanced to create a path in the occlusive material that is large enough to allow the hollow guidewire to cross the occlusive material.
Claims10
A rotatable medical device for crossing through an anatomical structure, the medical device comprising:
- a housing;
- a motor positioned in the housing;
- an elongate member removable coupled to the housing and extending distally therefrom, the elongate member advanceable intravascularly to a location proximate an anatomical structure;
- and
- a drive shaft rotatably disposed within the elongate member, the drive shaft extending distally from the motor positioned in the housing to a distal tip rotatably disposed at a distal end of the elongate member;
- the drive shaft being rotatable within the elongate member with the motor to thereby rotate the distal tip;
- wherein the housing and the motor are decouplable from the elongate member and the drive shaft, respectively, while the drive shaft remains positioned within the elongate member such that the elongate member is configured to permit the advancement of an access device over the elongate member to an anatomical location after decoupling the housing from the elongate member.
