A method of securing an assembly of a drug delivery system, comprising:
- configuring at least a first component and a second component of the assembly in a closed configuration ready for placement into the drug delivery system;
- installing an assembly key including a locking element on the assembly to secure the assembly in said configuration;
- and, transporting the assembly with the assembly key installed.
A system for preventing unintended linear extension of an assembly of a drug delivery system during transport, comprising:
- an assembly including at least a first component and a second component in a closed configuration;
- and,
- an assembly key including a locking element removably installed on the closed assembly,
- wherein the locking element of the assembly key prevents motion of at least the first component and the second component with respect to each other, thereby preventing extension of the closed assembly during transport.
