Abstract
Alkylthioperoxydiphosphates having an alkyl group between about 4 and 18 carbons, a decomposition temperature between about 150 and 300° C. and a wear volume between about 0.0025 and 0.0015 mm3 in HFRB testing, and methods of making same. Lubricant additives that includes the alkylthioperoxydiphosphates.
Claims18
A lubricant additive comprising an alkylthioperoxydiphosphate.
An alkylthioperoxydiphosphate comprising alkyl chains having between 13 and 18 carbons.
A method for making an alkylthioperoxydiphosphate comprising the steps:
- mixing phosphorus pentasulfide with alcohol at an elevated temperature in toluene to produce an O,O-dialkyl dithiophosphoric acid;
- and oxidizing the O,O-dialkyl dithiophosphoric acid by adding H2O2 solution (37%) to the O,O-dialkyl dithiophosphoric acid.
