Method and apparatus for reducing interference in a wireless system

A method of reducing interference in a wireless system, comprising:

• a base station receiving information regarding interference disturbing direct wireless communication between two mobile communication devices;
• the base station identifying a source of the interference based on the received information;
• and
• the base station mitigating the interference.

A method of reducing interference in a long term evolution (LTE) wireless system, comprising:

• a first user equipment directly communicating, absent intervening devices and using LTE uplink resources, with a second user equipment;
• the first user equipment experiencing interference from a third user equipment communicating with a base station that degrades the direct communication between the first user equipment and the second user equipment;
• and
• the first user equipment reporting identifying characteristics of the third user equipment to the base station for mitigation by the base station of the interference.

A base station for reducing interference in a wireless system, comprising:

• means for:
• receiving information regarding interference disturbing direct wireless communication between two mobile communication devices;
• and
• identifying a source of the interference based on the received information;
• and
• means for instructing the source of the interference to modify communications to mitigate the interference.

A first user equipment capable of reducing interference in a wireless system, comprising:

• means for directly communicating using uplink resources with a second user equipment;
• means for:
• identifying interference from a third user equipment communicating with a base station that degrades the direct communication with the second user equipment;
• and
• reporting identifying characteristics of the third user equipment to the base station for mitigation by the base station of the interference.

An apparatus for reducing interference in a wireless system, comprising:

• a feedback reception module configured to:
• receive information regarding interference disturbing direct wireless communication between two mobile communication devices;
• identify a source of the interference based on the received information;
• an interference management module configured to create instructions to mitigate the interference;
• and
• a transmitter configured to communicate the instructions.

An apparatus for reducing interference in a wireless system, comprising:

• a P2P communications module configured to directly communicate using uplink resources with a second user equipment;
• a receiver configured to receive interference from a third user equipment communicating with a base station that degrades the direct communication with the second user equipment;
• and
• a reporting module configured to report identifying characteristics of the third user equipment to the base station for mitigation by the base station of the interference.

A computer program product, comprising:

• a non-transitory computer-readable medium associated with a first user equipment, comprising:
• code for causing at least one processor to directly communicate using uplink resources with a second user equipment;
• code for causing the at least one processor to identify interference from a third user equipment communicating with a base station that degrades the direct communication with the second user equipment;
• and
• code for causing the at least one processor to report identifying characteristics of the third user equipment to the base station for mitigation by the base station of the interference.

A computer program product, comprising:

• a non-transitory computer-readable medium associated with a base station, comprising:
• code for causing at least one processor to receive information regarding interference disturbing direct wireless communication between two mobile communication devices;
• code for causing the at least one processor to identify a source of the interference, external to the direct communication, based on the received information;
• and
• code for causing the at least one processor to instruct the source of the interference to modify communications to mitigate the interference.

A computer program product, comprising:

• a non-transitory computer-readable medium, comprising:
• code for causing at least one processor to at least partially identify an interfering resource using at least energy received from the interfering resource;
• and
• code for causing the at least one processor to report the interfering resource to a base station for mitigation of the interference.
