Abstract
A fumigant pesticide composition made up of a base formula and enhancement formula, which include botanical essential oil-based active ingredients and inert materials identified under the United States Environmental Protection Agency's approved list of minimum risk pesticides. The enhancement formula is effective to inhibit or enhance the release of the secondary metabolites of the essential oil-based active ingredients. An apparatus and method for the controlled release of the fumigant pesticide composition is also disclosed.
Claims22
A pesticidal composition comprising:
- (a) a pesticidally effective amount of a base formula comprising at least one essential oil-based active ingredient, wherein said essential oil-based active ingredient is comprised of a plurality of secondary metabolites;
- and
- (b) a pesticidally effective amount of an enhancement formula, wherein said enhancement formula is effective to inhibit or enhance the release of at least one of said plurality of secondary metabolites under conditions effective for the volatilization of said pesticidal composition.
An apparatus for the controlled release of a pesticide composition, wherein said apparatus comprises:
- (a) a carrier;
- (b) a pesticidal composition contained in said carrier, wherein said pesticidal composition comprises a pesticidally effective amount of a base formula and a pesticidally effective amount of an enhancement formula, wherein base formula comprises at least one essential oil-based active ingredient, wherein said essential oil-based active ingredient is comprised of a plurality of secondary metabolites, wherein said enhancement formula is effective to inhibit or enhance the release of at least one of said plurality of secondary metabolites under conditions effective for the volatilization of said pesticidal composition;
A method of controlling the release of a pesticidal composition comprising the steps of:
- (a) providing a vessel carrier comprising an open end and a closed end, wherein a plate is attached to and covering said said open end of said vessel carrier, wherein said plate comprises pores configured to permit passage of a gas but restrict passage of a liquid, wherein an outer surface of said plate is covered by a cover;
- (b) supplying a pesticidal composition to said vessel carrier, wherein said pesticidal composition comprises a pesticidally effective amount of a base formula and a pesticidally effective amount of an enhancement formula, wherein base formula comprises at least one essential oil-based active ingredient, wherein said essential oil-based active ingredient is comprised of a plurality of secondary metabolites, wherein said enhancement formula is effective to inhibit or enhance the release of at least one of said plurality of secondary metabolites under conditions effective for the volatilization of said pesticidal composition;
- (c) placing said vessel carrier in an enclosed space with at least one pest;
- and
- (d) removing said cover from said plate, thereby exposing said pesticidal composition in said vessel carrier to air causing volatilization of said pesticidal composition into a fumigant gas, wherein said fumigant gas passes through said pores of said plate of said vessel carrier into said enclosed space, wherein said fumigant gas is effective to kill said at least one pest.
A method of controlling the release of a pesticide composition comprising the steps of:
- (a) providing a fibrous tissue carrier enclosed in a casing;
- (b) impregnating a pesticidal composition in said fibrous tissue carrier, wherein said pesticidal composition comprises a pesticidally effective amount of a base formula and a pesticidally effective amount of an enhancement formula, wherein said base formula comprises at least one essential oil-based active ingredient, wherein said essential oil-based active ingredient is comprised of a plurality of secondary metabolites, wherein said enhancement formula is effective to inhibit or enhance the release of at least one of said plurality of secondary metabolites under conditions effective for the volatilization of said pesticidal composition;
- (c) placing said casing in an enclosed space with at least one pest;
- and
- (d) removing said fibrous tissue carrier from said casing, wherein exposure to air causes volatilization of said pesticidal composition into a fumigant gas, wherein said fumigant gas is effective to kill said at least one pest.
