Abstract

In a method for determining a respiratory phase from a series of measurements of a respiratory position, the respiratory phase is determined by a finite state machine, which processes a current measured respiratory position and at least one previously measured respiratory position, and assigns a current respiratory phase to the current respiratory position. For this purpose, the temporal spacing between two successive measurements of the respiratory position is small in relation to a respiratory cycle. This method allows for a continuous measurement of imaging measurement data to be influenced in a prospective manner in a determined respiratory phase.

A method for determining a respiratory phase of a respiratory movement of a patient from a series of measurements of respiratory positions, wherein the respiratory phase can assume numerous status values, wherein a current measured respiratory position and at least one previously measure respiratory position are processed and the current respiratory position is assigned a current status value of the respiratory phase, wherein the temporal spacing of two successive measurements of respiratory positions is small in relation to a respiratory cycle, said method comprising:

with a medical data acquisition device, measuring a current respiratory position;
from a processor, retrieving a momentary status value for the respiratory phase, which has been determined in the previous measurement of the respiratory position;
in said processor, automatically determining a momentarily valid maximum respiratory position as of the last change to the momentary status value of the respiratory phase and/or a momentarily valid minimum respiratory position among the previously determined respiratory positions;
in said processor, determining the current measured respiratory position with a previously determined maximum respiratory position and/or a previously determined minimum position, in relation to the momentary status value of the respiratory phase;
in said processor, determining a current status value for the respiratory phase and determination of a current maximum respiratory position as of the last change to the current respiratory phase and/or a current minimum respiratory position as of the last change to the current respiratory phase, dependent on results of the comparison and the current respiratory position;
and
making an indication of said current status value available in electronic form at an output of the processor.

A magnetic resonance apparatus for determining a respiratory phase of a respiratory movement of a patient from a series of measurements of respiratory positions, wherein the respiratory phase can assume numerous status values, wherein a current measured respiratory position and at least one previously measure respiratory position are processed and the current respiratory position is assigned a current status value of the respiratory phase, wherein the temporal spacing of two successive measurements of respiratory positions is small in relation to a respiratory cycle, said apparatus comprising:

a magnetic resonance data acquisition unit operable to acquire a current respiratory position of a patient therein;
a processor configured to operate said medical data acquisition unit to measure a current respiratory position;
said processor being configured to retrieve a momentary status value for the respiratory phase, which has been determined in the previous measurement of the respiratory position;
said processor being configured to automatically determine a momentarily valid maximum respiratory position as of the last change to the momentary status value of the respiratory phase and/or a momentarily valid minimum respiratory position among the previously determined respiratory positions;
said processor being configured to determine the current measured respiratory position with a previously determined maximum respiratory position and/or a previously determined minimum position, in relation to the momentary status value of the respiratory phase;
said processor being configured to determine a current status value for the respiratory phase and determination of a current maximum respiratory position as of the last change to the current respiratory phase and/or a current minimum respiratory position as of the last change to the current respiratory phase, dependent on results of the comparison and the current respiratory position;
and
said processor being configured to make an indication of said current status value available in electronic form at an output of the processor.

with said medical data acquisition device, measure a current respiratory position;
retrieve a momentary status value for the respiratory phase, which has been determined in the previous measurement of the respiratory position;
determine a momentarily valid maximum respiratory position as of the last change to the momentary status value of the respiratory phase and/or a momentarily valid minimum respiratory position among the previously determined respiratory positions;
determine the current measured respiratory position with a previously determined maximum respiratory position and/or a previously determined minimum position, in relation to the momentary status value of the respiratory phase;
determine a current status value for the respiratory phase and determination of a current maximum respiratory position as of the last change to the current respiratory phase and/or a current minimum respiratory position as of the last change to the current respiratory phase, dependent on results of the comparison and the current respiratory position;
and
make an indication of said current status value available in electronic form at an output of the processing system.
