Medical Imaging System With Range Imaging-Based Control

A method of controlling a medical imaging system, the medical imaging system comprising a scanner configured to generate scan data of a patient volume or area, the method comprising:

• capturing, with a range imaging camera, spatial data indicative of relative movement between the scanner and an object adjacent to the scanner;
• determining an operational procedure for implementation based on the spatial data, the operational procedure being directed to acquisition of the scan data or processing of the scan data;
• and
• directing the implementation of the operational procedure.

A non-transitory computer program product comprising a computer-readable medium encoded with computer-readable instructions that, when executed by a processor, direct the processor to:

• receive spatial data from a range imaging camera having a field of view such that the spatial data is indicative of relative movement between a scanner and an object spaced from the scanner, the scanner being configured to generate scan data of a patient volume or area;
• access a memory in which model data for the object is stored;
• and
• determine an operational procedure for implementation based on the spatial data, the operational procedure being directed to acquisition of the scan data or to processing of the scan data.
