Abstract
A composite article may include a matrix and a plurality of fibers embedded in the matrix. Each one of the fibers has a fiber length and a fiber geometry. The fiber geometry of at least a portion of the fibers may vary along the fiber length.
Claims30
A composite article, comprising:
- a matrix;
- a plurality of fibers embedded in the matrix;
- each one of the fibers having a fiber length and a fiber geometry;
- and
- the fiber geometry varying along the fiber length.
2 more elements
A method of manufacturing a composite article, comprising the steps of:
- providing a plurality of fibers each having a fiber length and a fiber geometry, at least one of the fibers having a fiber geometry that varies along the fiber length;
- and
- embedding the fibers in a matrix.
A fiber for a composite article, comprising:
- a fiber length and a fiber geometry;
- and
- the fiber geometry varying along at least a portion of the fiber length.
A method of loading a composite article of a vehicle, comprising the steps of:
- providing the composite article as a plurality of fibers embedded in a matrix, each one of the fibers having a fiber length and a fiber geometry, the fiber geometry varying along the fiber length;
- placing the composite article in a first state comprising a static loading condition;
- and
- placing the composite article in a second state comprising a dynamic loading condition.
