Abstract
A method of inducing hemostasis in a wound using a hemostatic product. A dextran support is provided. At least one hemostatic agent stabilizer is mixed with at least one hemostatic agent to form a hemostatic agent and stabilizer mixture. The at least one hemostatic agent includes at least one of thrombin and fibrinogen. The hemostatic agent and stabilizer mixture is associated with the dextran support. The hemostatic product is applied to the wound in which a bodily fluid is present. The at least one hemostatic agent is released from the hemostatic product to induce hemostasis in the wound.
Claims21
A method of inducing hemostasis in a wound, comprising the step of fabricating a hemostatic product that comprises:
- providing a dextran support;
- mixing at least one hemostatic agent stabilizer with at least one hemostatic agent to form a hemostatic agent and stabilizer mixture, wherein the at least one hemostatic agent comprises at least one of thrombin and fibrinogen;
- and
- associating the hemostatic agent and stabilizer mixture with the dextran support;
- applying the hemostatic product to the wound in which a bodily fluid is present;
- releasing the at least one hemostatic agent from the hemostatic product;
- and
- inducing hemostasis in the wound.
A method of inducing hemostasis in a wound, comprising the step of fabricating a hemostatic product that comprises:
- forming a first electrospun dextran fiber mat;
- forming a second electrospun dextran fiber mat;
- associating at least one hemostatic agent with the first electrospun dextran fiber mat and the second electrospun dextran fiber mat, wherein the at least one hemostatic agent comprises at least one of thrombin and fibrinogen;
- associating at least one hemostatic agent stabilizer with the first electrospun dextran fiber mat and the second electrospun dextran fiber mat;
- and
- positioning the first electrospun dextran fiber mat adjacent to the second electrospun dextran fiber mat;
- applying the hemostatic product to the wound in which a bodily fluid is present;
- releasing the at least one hemostatic agent from the hemostatic product;
- and
- inducing hemostasis in the wound.
