Application of sequence hopping and orthogonal covering codes to uplink reference signals

A User Equipment (UE) for transmitting a reference signal, the UE comprising:

• a transceiver configured to receive a cell-specific sequence-hopping parameter, to receive a UE-specific sequence-hopping parameter, and to transmit the reference signal, based on a reference signal sequence;
• and
• a controller configured to determine the reference signal sequence based on the UE-specific sequence-hopping parameter,
• wherein sequence hopping does not apply to the reference signal sequence if the cell-specific sequence-hopping parameter indicates that the sequence hopping is enabled and the UE-specific sequence-hopping parameter indicates that the sequence hopping is disabled.

A method of a User Equipment (UE) for transmitting a reference signal, the method comprising:

• receiving a cell-specific sequence-hopping parameter;
• receiving a UE-specific sequence-hopping parameter;
• identifying a type of the reference signal;
• determining a reference signal sequence based on the UE-specific sequence-hopping parameter, when the reference signal is of a first type;
• and
• transmitting the reference signal based on the determined reference signal sequence,
• wherein sequence hopping does not apply to the reference signal sequence for the reference signal of the first type, if the cell-specific sequence-hopping parameter indicates that the sequence hopping is enabled and the UE-specific sequence-hopping parameter indicates that the sequence hopping is disabled.
