Driving method for plasma display panel, and plasma display device

A driving method for a plasma display panel, the driving method comprising:

• displaying gradation on the plasma display panel having a plurality of discharge cells that has a data electrode and a display electrode pair formed of a scan electrode and a sustain electrode by setting a plurality of subfields having an initializing period, an address period, and a sustain period in one field,
• wherein one of a forced initializing operation and a selective initializing operation is performed in the initializing period, the forced initializing operation causing initializing discharge in the discharge cells, the selective initializing operation selectively causing initializing discharge in the discharge cells having an address discharge in the immediately preceding subfield,
• wherein, in an address period of a specific-cell initializing subfield having an initializing period in which the forced initializing operation is performed in specific discharge cells and the selective initializing operation is performed in the other discharge cells, a period in which a scan pulse and an address pulse are simultaneously applied to a discharge cell having undergone the selective initializing operation in the initializing period is longer than a period in which the scan pulse and the address pulse are simultaneously applied to a discharge cell having undergone the forced initializing operation, and
• wherein, in a field having the specific-cell initializing subfield, the discharge cell having no address discharge in an address period in the specific-cell initializing subfield occurs no address discharge also in the address period in the subfields after the specific-cell initializing subfield.
