A microstructure for electroluminescent (EL) elements comprises a plurality of microconvexities having circular bottom surfaces. Each microconvexity is defined by a generatrix dropped from the peak to the circumference of the bottom surface. The height of the generatrix is monotonically reduced from the peak to the circumference. The height of the peak may be 0.67-1.15 times the radius of the bottom surface. The height of the convexities at a position on the radius of the bottom surface 3/4 away from the center of the bottom surface may be 0.21-0.65 times the radius of the bottom surface. The height of the convexities at a position on the radius of the bottom surface 9/10 away from the center of the bottom surface may be 0.04-0.38 times the radius of the bottom surface.
