Systems and methods for optimizing system performance of capacity and spectrum constrained, multiple-access communication systems by using application-aware admission control are provided. The systems and methods provided herein can determine admission control response using information about applications and congestion information. The information about applications can be obtained from packet inspection. The admission control responses can include admitting a new service, denying the new service, modifying the new or an existing service, delaying the new service, and suspending an existing service.
An access node, comprising:
The access node of 1, wherein the application information includes an application class and a specific application.
The access node of 1, wherein the admission control module comprises:
The access node of 1, further comprising a scheduler module configured to receive downlink packets, group the downlink packets into queues, and schedule the downlink packets for transmission to one or more of the terminal nodes utilizing scheduler parameters.
The access node of 4, wherein the scheduler module supplies congestion metrics to the admission control module for use in determining admission control responses.
The access node of 5, wherein the congestion metrics include information selected from the group consisting of discard rates, scheduling queue egress rates, packet age, and scheduling queue occupancy.
The access node of 4, wherein the admission control responses include responses that modify the scheduler parameters.
The access node of 1, wherein the packets inspected by the packet inspection module include uplink packets and downlink packets.
An access node, comprising:
A method for use in determining admission control responses, the method comprising:
