Siloxane Compositions Suitable For Forming Encapsulants

A composition comprising:

• (A) an organopolysiloxane component having an average of at least two alkenyl groups per molecule and selected from the group of:
• R1R2R3SiOSiR1R2R3, (I)
• (R1R32SiO)4-aSiR4a, (II)
• and combinations thereof;
• and
• (B) an organohydrogensiloxane component having an average of at least two silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms per molecule and selected from the group of:
• (R6R72SiO1/2)y(R5SiO3/2)x, (IV)
• (R6R72SiO)(R52SiO)z(SiR6R72), (V)
• and combinations thereof;
• wherein each R1, R2, R3, and R7 independently comprises an alkyl group, an aryl group, or an alkenyl group, R4 comprises an alkyl group or an aryl group, each R5 and R6 independently comprises an alkyl group, an aryl group, an alkenyl group, or a hydrogen atom, subscript a is 0 or 1, subscript y ranges from 0.2 to 0.6, x+y=1, and subscript z≧1, provided each of component (A) and component (B) independently has at least one of an alkyl group and an aryl group;
• and
• (C) a catalytic amount of a hydrosilylation catalyst component.

A light emitting diode comprising:

• a substrate;
• and
• an encapsulant at least partially surrounding the substrate and comprising a reaction product of a composition comprising;
• (A) an organopolysiloxane component comprising at least one of a disiloxane, a trisiloxane, and a tetrasiloxane, and having at least one of an alkyl group and an aryl group and having an average of at least two alkenyl groups per molecule, and
• (B) an organohydrogensiloxane component having at least one of an alkyl group and an aryl group and having an average of at least two silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms per molecule,
• in the presence of
• (C) a catalytic amount of a hydrosilylation catalyst component;
• with the proviso that the encapsulant has a refractive index ranging from 1.40 to 1.60 at 632.8 nm wavelength.
