Abstract
In one form, the present teachings provide a method and apparatus for broadcasting an event. The method includes receiving data related to an event via an uplink. Another aspect of the method includes determining whether the data is broadcast on a recurring basis. The method also includes determining whether a transponder channel associated with multiplexed program channels has any unused data or bandwidth to broadcast a portion of the data along with the multiplexed program channels. Additionally, the method includes broadcasting the portion of the data in a data stream.
Claims20
A method to receive data, comprising:
- receiving across a network a first segment of data in a first data stream;
- receiving across the network a second segment of data in a second data stream, the second data stream separate from the first data stream;
- locally storing the first segment of data and second segment of data;
- assembling the first segment and the second segment of data to form assembled data;
- and
- in response to receiving a trigger across the network, presenting the assembled data to a display.
An apparatus to receive transmitted data, comprising:
- a receiver configured to receive a first segment of data in a first data stream and a second segment of the data in a second data stream;
- a control module configured to assemble the first segment and the second segment of the data to form assembled data;
- a storage device configured to store the first segment of the data, the second segment of the data, and the assembled data;
- and
- an output port coupled to the control module and coupleable to a display, the output port configured to pass the assembled data in response to a trigger.
A method to receive data, comprising:
- receiving a plurality of segments of data over a period of time, such that the data is received only once, at least one segment having an associated event identifier;
- storing the plurality of segments of data prior to presenting the plurality of segments of data to an output port;
- storing the event identifier associated with the at least one segment;
- presenting the plurality of segments of data to the output port;
- receiving an identical event identifier;
- retrieving the at least one segment corresponding to the associated event identifier;
- and
- presenting the at least one segment of data to an output port.
