Block storage virtualization on commodity secure digital cards

A computer-readable non-transitory storage device storing instructions that when executed by a computer cause the computer to perform a method, the method comprising:

• storing data in a log-structured format in a potentially unprotected flash storage exhibiting sub-optimal non-sequential write performance;
• storing in a protected storage meta-data associated with the data stored in the flash storage;
• and
• checking integrity of the data stored in the flash storage using the meta-data in the protected storage.

A computer system, comprising:

• a potentially unprotected flash storage storing data in a log-structured format, the flash storage exhibiting sub-optimal non-sequential write performance;
• a protected storage storing meta-data associated with the data stored in the flash storage;
• and
• an integrity checking mechanism configured to check integrity of the data stored in the flash storage using the meta-data in the protected storage.
