Abstract
There is disclosed embodiments of a vascular filter having, among other things, a plurality of discrete segments, each having two or more loops and an extension. The loops of each segment can be connected to form a dome or conical shaped end with an unblocked central opening. Prongs and beads may be provided to enhance visualization and anchoring in a vessel. Methods for inserting and moving or removing the filter from the vessel are also disclosed.
Claims20
A vascular filter system, comprising
- a vascular filter made of a plurality of segments, each said segment including at least a first loop, a second loop, and a curvilinear extension, said second loop fixed to said first loop and said extension, each said first loop being connected to one or more adjacent first loops so that said first loops define an opening between them, each said second loop being connected to one or more adjacent second loops;
- and
- an expandable member extendable at least through said opening, said expandable member having a first contracted state in which said expandable member can be moved through said opening, and a second expanded state in which said expandable member cannot be moved through said opening, wherein expanding said expandable member within said filter allows said expandable member to engage said filter to pull or buttress said filter in a blood vessel.
A vascular filter system, comprising:
- a vascular filter having a plurality of segments joined together, each said segment including a first loop, a second loop fixed to said first loop, and an extension fixed to said second loop and extending generally away from said first loop,
- wherein said first loop of each segment is joined to at least one other of said first loops, and said second loop of each segment is joined to at least one other of said second loops,
- and wherein said first loops when joined together bound a central longitudinal opening that is surrounded by said first loops,
- and wherein said extensions are curved so that their respective internally-facing portions are concave.
