Biocompatible material and device

A method to control the speed and degree of the change of the shape of a biodegradable polymer composite material or device, the method comprising:

• selecting a biodegradable polymer matrix material;
• selecting a filler component;
• selecting a relative amount of the filler component in a mixture of the biodegradable polymer matrix material and the filler component;
• mixing the biodegradable polymer matrix material and the filler component in said relative amount by conventional melt processing to form a composite;
• and
• orientation programming of an initial shape in a deformation process of the said composite so as to form the initial shape having heterogeneously oriented polymer matrix, a predetermined tension level and a controlled and predetermined speed to change from the initial shape towards an evolved shape after activation in physiological conditions.
