Abstract
A handheld computing device is disclosed. The handheld computing device includes a seamless housing formed from an extruded metal tube. The extruded tube includes open ends and internal rails which serve as a guide for slidably assembling an operational assembly through the open ends of the extruded tube, a reference surface for positioning the operational assembly relative to an access opening in the seamless housing, and a support structure for supporting the operational assembly during use.
Claims20
A method of mounting an electrical component to a metal frame, the method comprising:
- placing a first end of an electrical component within an undercut feature disposed on a first side of the frame;
- and
- snapping the second end of the electrical component into a snap attaching feature disposed on a second side of the metal frame, the second side opposite the first side,
- wherein the undercut feature and the snap feature cooperate to hold the electrical component securely against the frame.
A method of installing a speaker module within an electronic device housing, the method comprising:
- attaching a first surface of a speaker module to a perforated surface of a metal frame;
- attaching a first surface of an acoustic audio seal to a peripheral portion of a second surface of the speaker module;
- and
- sliding the metal frame into a first opening of the electronic device housing, the sliding of the metal frame causing a second surface of the acoustic audio seal to slide along an inside surface of the electronic device housing until the acoustic seal is positioned over a recess disposed along an inside surface of the electronic device housing,
- wherein the positioning of the audio seal over the recess creates a front volume of air bounded by the second surface of the speaker module, the acoustic audio seal and the recess.
An electronic device, comprising:
- an electronic device housing comprising an extruded metal tube;
- an internal frame member configured to support a plurality of electrical components;
- a speaker module having a first surface configured to be mounted to a perforated surface of the internal frame member;
- an acoustic seal disposed about a peripheral portion of the speaker, the acoustic seal configured to form a front acoustic volume of air between a second surface of the speaker module and a recess formed along a first portion of an inside surface of the electronic device housing about which the seal is in direct contact,
- wherein the acoustic seal is configured to slide along an inside surface of the electronic device housing during assembly or disassembly of the electronic device, and wherein the acoustic seal is configured to receive a compressive force from the perforated metal frame to seal the acoustic seal against the recess.
