Abstract
Methods and systems for selecting one of a plurality of antennas to be used as a transmit antenna based on an orientation of a user device are described. A user device determines an orientation of the user device, and selects one of multiple antennas to use as a first transmit antenna based on the orientation of the user device. The user device transmits information using the first transmit antenna.
Claims30
A method, implemented by a user device programmed to perform the following, comprising:
- transmitting first data using at least one of a plurality of antennas;
- detecting a object proximate to the user device;
- determining an orientation of the user device relative to the object;
- selecting, as a primary transmit antenna, one of the plurality of antennas that is farthest away from the object;
- and
- transmitting second data using the selected primary transmit antenna.
A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that when executed by a computing system cause the computing system to perform operations, comprising:
- communicating first information using a plurality of antennas;
- determining an orientation of the user device;
- selecting, as a first transmit antenna, one of the plurality of antennas based on the orientation of the user device;
- and
- transmitting second information using the first transmit antenna.
A user device, comprising:
- a plurality of antennas configured to communicate first information to and from the user device;
- a switch coupled to the plurality of antennas;
- and
- a processing component coupled to the switch, wherein the processing component is to execute an antenna manager to determine an orientation of the user device, to select one of the plurality of antennas to use as a first transmit antenna based on the orientation of the user device using the switch, and wherein the processing component is to transmit second information using the first transmit antenna.
