Providing User Input Having a Plurality of Data Types Using a Remote Control Device

A non-transitory computer accessible memory medium storing program instructions for selecting elements on a user interface of a display using a remote control device, wherein the program instructions are executable to:

• display, on the display, the set of numerals 0-9, wherein the set of numerals 0-9 are displayed in only a first row on the display;
• display, on the display, letters of an alphabet, wherein the letters of the alphabet are displayed in only a second row on the display;
• receiving user input from the remote control device specifying alphanumeric input using only the first and second rows.

A non-transitory computer accessible memory medium storing program instructions for entering an IP address on a user interface of a display using a remote control device, wherein the program instructions are executable to:

• display, on the display, the set of numerals 0-9 and the period symbol, wherein the set of numerals 0-9 and the period symbol are displayed in only a first row on the display;
• receive user input from the remote control device selecting a plurality of the numerals and a plurality of instances of the period symbol to assemble an IP address, wherein the IP address is useable to connect to a remote computer having the IP address.
