Abstract
There is provided an apparatus having a controller generates a signal in response to receiving an alarm indication from a sensor, the alarm indication indicative of an alert condition threatening lives or property. A transmitter directly transmits a message signal in response to the signal generated by the controller to a remote telecommunication device that is operated by a user. The controller, the sensor, the alert condition and the transmitter are all on-site in the same location.

An apparatus comprising:
- a sensor that detects an alert condition threatening lives or property;
- a controller that generates a signal in response to receiving an alarm indication from the sensor, the alarm indication indicative of an alert condition threatening lives or property;
- a transmitter that directly transmits a message signal in response to the signal generated by the controller to a remote telecommunication device that is operated by a user;
- and
- wherein the controller, the sensor, the alert condition and the transmitter are all on-site in the same location.

- detecting an alarm indicative of an alert condition threatening lives or property;
- and
- transmitting a message signal in response to the detecting of the alarm directly to a remote telecommunication device that is operated by a user;
- wherein the detecting and transmitting both occur on-site where the alert condition takes place.
