Abstract
Techniques are described for providing context for replacement functions. In one or more implementations, a context module is provided that can set context information associated with a computing device in memory such that a replacement function can retrieve the context information. When a call to a target function is intercepted and a replacement function is invoked, the replacement function can use the context information to execute one or more tasks associated with the replacement function.
Claims20
One or more computer-readable hardware storage media comprising computer-readable instructions which, when executed, cause a computing device to implement a module configured to:
- receive a redirected call to a target function;
- set context information in a portion of memory that is local to a replacement function responsive to receiving the redirected call;
- and
- cause the replacement function to be invoked such that the replacement function can retrieve the context information from the portion of memory.
A method comprising:
- saving a processor memory state in response to receiving an intercepted call to a target function;
- setting context information in memory such that a replacement function can be called and the context information can be retrieved by the replacement function;
- and
- restoring the processor memory state such that the processor memory state remains consistent across a call to the replacement function.
A method comprising:
- receiving a call to a replacement function in response to a call to a target function being intercepted;
- retrieving context information from storage that is local to the replacement function;
- and
- determining one or more of whether to execute the replacement function or how to execute the replacement function based on the context information.
