Abstract
A starting block for swimming equipped with a single curved surface to facilitate track starts while reducing the trip hazard of such a surface. This allows for safer mounting from rear and side steps and removes undesirable gaps in the top surface of the starting block. A pliable embodiment of said curved surface can modify the distance of the curvature from the leading edge of the starting block to adapt to different swimmer needs. An apparatus to obtain said distance for a given swimmer from a meet management system to modify the pliable embodiment for quick change during time-constrained events such as meets.
Claims17
The top surface of a starting block for swimming with a leading edge adjacent to a swimming pool for track starts comprised of
- a single continuous surface;
- said single surface being an upwardly curved profile within an acceptable clearance defined by swimming regulations for starting blocks;
- said curved profile to lead to a variety of increasingly steep angles of the surface so that a swimmer in track start position has a variety of angles available for the back foot depending on the positioning of said back foot.
Apparatus for the positioning of any adjustable profile for starting blocks for swimmers, where the information of the desirable distance from the leading edge to the profile for a given swimmer for their start is communicated to the starting block and used to set said desirable distance by manual or motorized means.
