A protective coating solution, liquid, gel, or film and a method of using such a material to provide a sterile covering for fingers, hands, arms or other selected skin surface for use as a glove substitute.

A method of coating a predetermined skin surface with a protective coating including the steps of:
- providing a coating solution;
- selecting a predetermined skin surface for application of said coating solution;
- applying said coating solution to said skin surface;
- and
- drying said coating solution.
