Gas bag arrangements for a steering wheel of a motor vehicle

A gasbag arrangement for a steering wheel of a motor vehicle, comprising a gasbag which can be inflated for protecting a vehicle occupant, wherein

• the gasbag, when inflated and mounted in the vehicle, comprises an indentation in a portion that points towards the vehicle floor in the straight-ahead position of the steering wheel for reducing the expansion of a gasbag in the direction of a body region extending below the thorax region of the vehicle occupant such that a load on that body region during an impact of the vehicle occupant on the gasbag is minimized,
• when the gasbag is inflated and mounted in the vehicle, a portion of the gasbag facing towards the thorax region of the vehicle occupant to be protected comprises a thorax region indentation in order to minimize the load on the thorax region of the vehicle occupant, and
• the thorax region indentation is generated by a tether extending in the interior of the gasbag, the tether extending between a portion of the gasbag that, when the gasbag is inflated, faces towards the steering wheel and a portion of the gasbag that faces away from the steering wheel.
