System and method for patent activity profiling

A patent activity profiling system comprising hardware-implemented modules, the system including:

• an input module configured to retrieve a first set of data from a database or patent registry relating to one or more patent matters in the name of a user-specified applicant, owner, or owner type;
• an analytics module configured to generate a first patent activity profile for the applicant, owner or owner type based on the retrieved first set of data;
• an analytics database for storing the first patent activity profile in the database as a reference profile;
• the input module being further configured to retrieve a second set of data from a database or patent registry relating to the one or more patent matters in the name of the specified applicant, owner, or owner type;
• the analytics module being further configured to compare the first and second sets of data to identify deviations from the reference profile;
• and
• a display module for transmitting the deviations to the user.

A patent portfolio management system comprising:

• a network;
• a patent matter database, accessible on the network, and including data about the patent matters, and
• a server, operatively connected to the network, wherein the server includes:
• a processor,
• a memory,
• software operable on the processor to:
• retrieve a first set of data from the database relating to one or more patent matters in the name of a user-specified applicant, owner, or owner type;
• generate a first patent activity profile for the applicant, owner or owner type based on the retrieved data;
• store the first patent activity profile in a system database as a reference profile;
• retrieve a second set of data from the database relating to the one or more patent matters in the name of the specified applicant, owner, or owner type;
• compare the first and second sets of data to identify deviations from the reference profile;
• and
• transmit the deviations to the user.
