System for handling a broken uniform resource locator

An apparatus, comprising;

• one or more processing devices;
• and
• a memory coupled to the processing devices comprising instructions executable by the one or more processing devices, the processing devices operable when executing the instructions to:
• perform a first search of a first database for one or more substitute URLs, responsive to a request including search query data, wherein the search query data is mapped to a requested broken URL in a second database.

One or more computer readable storage media encoded with software comprising computer executable instructions and when the software is executed operable to:

• receive a request for a Uniform Resource Locator (URL);
• determine that the URL is broken;
• determine if a first database includes query data corresponding to the URL;
• based on the determination, request one or more substitute URLs from a second database corresponding to the query data;
• and
• send a message identifying the one or more substitute URLs responsive to the request for the URL, the substitute URLs to be displayed on a graphical user interface.

A method, comprising:

• receiving a request for a Uniform Resource Locator (URL);
• determining the URL is broken;
• requesting search query data from a first database, wherein the search query data corresponds to the broken URL;
• and
• requesting one or more substitute URLs from a second database, wherein the search query data corresponds to the one or more substitute URLs.

An apparatus, comprising:

• means for receiving a request for search query data including broken URL;
• means for looking up the search query data in a database that maps the search query data to the broken URL;
• and
• means for returning the search query data responsive to the request.
