Pass-through mechanism for linear tape library

A system, comprising:

• a first linear tape library string and a second linear tape library string;
• a pass through mechanism;
• a first robotic assembly;
• a memory;
• and
• a processor coupled to the memory, wherein the processor executes operations to place by the first robotic assembly a tape from the first linear tape library string into the pass-through mechanism, and wherein a sum of lengths of the first linear tape library string and the second linear tape library string is such that a single linear tape library string whose length is at least equal to the sum cannot be accommodated in a room in which the first and the second linear tape library strings are placed.

A system, comprising:

• a memory;
• and
• a processor coupled to the memory, wherein the processor performs operations, the operations comprising:
• maintaining a pass-through mechanism;
• and
• placing, by a first robotic assembly a tape from a first linear tape library string into the pass-through mechanism, wherein a sum of lengths of the first linear tape library string and a second linear tape library string is such that a single linear tape library string whose length is at least equal to the sum cannot be accommodated in a room in which the first and the second linear tape library strings are placed.
