Abstract
This invention discloses methods for generating one or both of an ophthalmic lens precursor with at least a portion of one surface free-formed from a Reactive Mixture. In some embodiments, an ophthalmic lens precursor is formed on a substrate with an arcuate optical quality surface via a source of actinic radiation controllable to cure a definable portion of a volume of Reactive Mixture.
Claims20
An apparatus for forming an ophthalmic device, the apparatus comprising:
- a Free Form processing male mold mandrel comprising a generally convex optical quality surface upon which an ophthalmic device may be formed, wherein at least a portion of the generally convex optical quality surface is part of a container suitable for holding a volume of a reactive mixture and at least a portion of the generally convex optical quality surface protrudes into a space within the container;
- and
- a light source for providing beams of actinic radiation through the male mold mandrel and the generally convex optical quality surface.
An apparatus for forming an ophthalmic device, the apparatus comprising:
- a Free Form processing female mold mandrel comprising a generally concave optical quality surface upon which an ophthalmic device may be formed, wherein at least a portion of the generally concave optical quality surface is part of a container suitable for holding a volume of a reactive mixture;
- and
- a light source for providing beams of actinic radiation through the female mold mandrel and the concave optical quality surface.
