Exhaust gas recirculation method and system

An exhaust gas recirculation system (5) configured to be used in a large internal combustion engine (10) having an air inlet (15) and an exhaust gas outlet (20), the exhaust gas recirculation system comprising:

• an exhaust gas recirculation line (140, 175, 190) configured to recirculate a first partial exhaust gas flow (190) to the air inlet (15) of the large internal combustion engine (10);
• a exhaust gas discharge line (130) fluidly connected to the exhaust gas recirculation line (140, 175, 190) and configured to discharge at least a second partial exhaust gas flow (220);
• an exhaust gas turbine (155) configured to be driven by the second partial exhaust gas flow (220);
• an exhaust gas compressor (160) configured to be driven by the exhaust gas turbine (155) and to compress the exhaust gas of the first partial exhaust gas flow (190);
• a first exhaust gas cooler (170) arranged upstream of the exhaust gas compressor (160) and configured to cool the exhaust gas of the first partial exhaust gas flow (190);
• and
• a second exhaust gas cooler (180) arranged downstream of the exhaust gas compressor (160) and configured to cool the compressed exhaust gas of the first partial exhaust gas flow (190).
