Abstract
Managing power-consumption, for use in a storage system comprising first data stored on one or more storage devices is provided. A receiver receives a policy comprising a power-management parameter, a first parameter and a rule associated with the policy. An analyser, responsive to receipt of a policy, analyzes second data associated with the rule. A determiner, responsive to the analysis, determines third data in accordance with the second data. The third data is associated with migration of the first data.

A computer implemented method for managing power-consumption, for use in a storage system comprising first data stored on one or more storage devices, the method comprising:
- receiving, by a processor, first user input identifying a selection of one or more virtual disks for which to migrate the first data;
- receiving, by the processor, second user input identifying a power management parameter and a first parameter, wherein the power management parameter and the first parameter are numerical values in a set of numerical values of 0 to 100 and wherein the sum of the power management parameter and the first parameter equal 100;
- generating, by the processor, a power-management policy using the power management parameter and the first parameter;
- generating, by the processor, a rule based on the power management policy generated using the power management parameter and the first parameter;
- analysing, by the processor, in response to receiving the power-management policy, second data associated with the one or more virtual disks in accordance with the rule in order to identify the first data;
- identifying, by the processor, at least one of the one or more storage devices to migrate the first data to in accordance with the first rule;
- and
- determining, by the processor, in response to analysing the second data, third data in accordance with the second data, wherein the third data is associated with migration of the first data to the at least one of the one or more storage devices.
