Uses of dioxolane derivatives in the finishing of leather are described. Also described, are leather finishing compositions comprising dioxolane derivatives and methods for treating leather.

A leather finishing composition comprising a dioxolane derivative of formula I
- where
- R1 and R2, which are the same or different, are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl and phenyl, and
- n is an integer from 1 to 5.
A method of manufacturing a leather finishing, the method comprising forming the composition by combining a dioxolane derivative of formula I
- where
- R1 and R2, which are the same or different, are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl and phenyl, and
- n is an integer from 1 to 5,
- with at least one constituent or organic solvent.
