Abstract

A system and method for operating a portable electronic device are disclosed. A detected object is detected when the object is in contact with the device to provide detection results. Whether the device is performing a predetermined function to provide a first determination result and whether the object is in contact with the device based on the detection results to provide a second determination result are then determined. One of a first function and a second function comprising the first function based on the first determination result and the second determination result is then selected. The first function is selected if it is determined that the device is performing the predetermined function and that the object is in contact with mobile terminal. The second function is selected if it is determined that the device is performing the predetermined function and that the object is not in contact with the device

Dependent claims

A portable electronic device, comprising:

a proximity detection module operable to detect a detected object when the detected object is in contact with the portable electronic device to provide detection results;
a first determination module operable to determine whether the portable electronic device is performing a predetermined function to provide a first determination result;
a second determination module operable to determine whether the detected object is in contact with the portable electronic device based on the detection results to provide a second determination result;
and
a function selection module operable to:
select one of a first function and a second function comprising the first function based on the first determination result and the second determination result;
select the first function if the first determination module determines that the portable electronic device is performing the predetermined function, and the second determination module determines that the detected object is in contact with portable electronic device;
and
select the second function if the first determination module determines that the portable electronic device is performing the predetermined function and the second determination module determines that the detected object is not in contact with the portable electronic device.

detecting a detected object when the detected object is in contact with the portable electronic device to provide detection results;
determining whether the portable electronic device is performing a predetermined function to provide a first determination result;
determining whether the detected object is in contact with the portable electronic device based on the detection results to provide a second determination result;
selecting one of a first function and a second function comprising the first function based on the first determination result and the second determination result;
selecting the first function if it is determined that the portable electronic device is performing the predetermined function, and it is determined that the detected object is in contact with mobile terminal;
and
selecting the second function if it is determined that the portable electronic device is performing the predetermined function and it is determined that the detected object is not in contact with and in proximity to the portable electronic device.

A computer readable storage medium comprising computer-executable instructions for performing a method for operating a portable electronic device, the method executed by the computer-executable instructions comprising:

detecting a detected object when the detected object is in contact with the portable electronic device to provide detection results;

determining whether the detected object is in contact with the portable electronic device based on the detection results to provide a second determination result;
selecting one of a first function and a second function comprising the first function based on the first determination result and the second determination result;
selecting the first function if it is determined that the portable electronic device is performing the predetermined function, and it is determined that the detected object is in contact with mobile terminal;
and
selecting the second function if it is determined that the portable electronic device is performing the predetermined function and it is determined that the detected object is not in contact with and in proximity to the portable electronic device.
