Permanent magnet and motor and generator using the same

A permanent magnet comprising a composition represented by a composition formula:

• (Sm1-xRx)(FepMQCurCo1-p-q-r)z
• where, R is at least one element selected from Nd and Pr,
• M is at least one element selected from Ti, Zr, and Hf,
• p is a number (atomic ratio) satisfying 0.22≦p≦0.45,
• q is a number (atomic ratio) satisfying 0.005≦q≦0.05,
• r is a number (atomic ratio) satisfying 0.01≦r≦0.1,
• x is a number (atomic ratio) satisfying 0.05≦x<0.5,
• z is a number (atomic ratio) satisfying 7≦z≦9,
• wherein the permanent magnet comprises a Th2Zn17 crystal phase as a main phase,
• wherein a ratio of I(113) to I(300) is in a range of 0.9≦I(113)/I(300)≦1.7, where the I(113) is a diffraction peak intensity from a (113) plane of the Th2Zn17 crystal phase in powder X-ray diffraction, and the I(300) is a diffraction peak intensity from a (300) plane of the permanent magnet in powder X-ray diffraction.
