Abstract
A method for enhancing anaerobic reductive dechlorination of a contaminated site includes enriching the site with organic carbon suitable for use as an energy source by dechlorinating bacteria, nitrogen in the form of urea or ammonia, nutrient phosphorus, matter that releases bio-available hydrogen over a relatively short period of time and relatively quickly following site enrichment and matter that releases bio-available hydrogen over a relatively long period of time following site enrichment.
Claims18
A method for enhancing anaerobic reductive dechlorination of a contaminated site, comprising the step of:
- enriching the site with:
- organic carbon suitable for use as an energy source by dechlorinating bacteria;
- nitrogen in the form of urea or ammonia;
- nutrient phosphorus;
- matter that releases bio-available hydrogen over a relatively short period of time and relatively quickly following site enrichment;
- and
- matter that releases bio-available hydrogen over a relatively long period of time following site enrichment.
A composition for enhancing anaerobic reductive dechlorination comprising:
- organic carbon suitable for use as an energy source by dechlorinatiug bacteria;
- nitrogen in the form of urea or ammonia;
- nutrient phosphorus;
- matter that releases bio-available hydroeen over a relatively short period of time and relatively quickly following hydration;
- and
- matter that releases bio-available hydrogen over a relatively long period of time when used as an in situ soil additive.
