Abstract
A musical instrument and acoustic/electrical pickup is provided. The instrument includes acoustic and/or electrical pickup capabilities but also retains the feel of an acoustic instrument. The pickup is removable from the instrument.

A musical instrument comprising:
- a body;
- and
- a pickup membrane connected to said body via a connection;
- wherein said connection between said pickup membrane and said body allows said pickup membrane to vibrate independent of said body.

- a pickup body with a cavity;
- a membrane forming at least a portion of a wall of said cavity;
- and
- a connection member to directly connect the musical instrument to said membrane.
