Abstract
The present teachings provide a fuser member comprising a substrate and a release layer. The release layer is disposed on the substrate and includes a plurality of carbon nanotubes. The carbon nanotubes have a hydroxyphenylmaleimide group covalently bonded to an outer surface of the plurality of carbon nanotubes and a fluoroelastomer shell layer covalently bonded to the hydroxyphenylmaleimide. The plurality of carbon nanotubes are in dispersed one or more fluoro-materials. There is also described the carbon nanotubes and a method of making the carbon nanotubes.

A fuser member comprising:
- a substrate, and
- a release layer disposed on the substrate comprising a plurality of carbon nanotubes dispersed in one or more fluoro-materials, the plurality of carbon nanotubes comprise a hydroxyphenylmaleimide group covalently bonded to outer surfaces of the plurality of carbon nanotubes, and a fluoroelastomer shell layer covalently bonded to the hydroxyphenylmaleimide.
A method of making core-shell particles comprising:
- mixing carbon nanotubes and hydroxyphenylmaleimide (HPM) in a solvent to form a reaction mixture;
- separating the reaction mixture to obtain carbon nanotubes having hydroxyphenylmaleimide covalently bonded to an outer surface of the carbon nanotubes;
- reacting the carbon nanotubes having hydroxyphenylmaleimide covalently bonded to the outer surface with a fluoroelastomer selected from the group consisting of copolymers of;
- 1) copolymers of two of vinylidenefluoride, hexafluoropropylene, and tetrafluoroethylene, 2) terpolymers of vinylidenefluoride, hexafluoropropylene and tetrafluoroethylene, and 3) tetrapolymers of vinylidenefluoride, hexafluoropropylene, tetrafluoroethylene, and a cure site monomer, in a solvent to form carbon nanotubes having an elastomeric shell;
- and
- collecting the carbon nanotubes.
A carbon nanofibril comprising:
- hydroxyphenylmaleimide bonded to an outer surface of a carbon nanotube, and a fluoroelastomer shell layer bonded to the hydroxyphenylmaleimide.
