Method and system for managing quality of service via a broadband gateway

A system for networking, the system comprising:

• one or more circuits for use a broadband gateway that enables communication with a plurality of communication devices, said one or more circuits being operable to:
• handle at least one physical layer connection to at least one corresponding network access service provider;
• determine, based on communications with said plurality of communication devices, whether each of said plurality of communication devices supports one or more first Quality of Service (QoS) protocols that are supported by said broadband gateway;
• and
• communicate a result of said determining to a content provider and/or service provider, wherein said content provider and/or service provider:
• determines whether to utilize one or more second QoS protocols to deliver content to a particular one of said plurality of communication devices based on whether said particular one of said plurality of communication devices supports said one or more first QoS protocols.
