Abstract
A process is disclosed for making styrene or ethylbenzene by reacting toluene with a C1 source that is selected from the group consisting of methanol, formaldehyde, formalin, trioxane, methylformcel, paraformaldehyde, methylal, and combinations thereof.
Claims20
A process for making styrene comprising:
- providing a C1 source to a reactor;
- and
- reacting toluene with the C1 source in the reactor to form a product stream comprising ethylbenzene and styrene;
- wherein the C1 source is selected from the group consisting of methanol, formaldehyde, formalin, trioxane, methylformcel, paraformaldehyde, methylal, and combinations thereof.
1 more element
A process for making styrene and ethylbenzene comprising:
- providing a C1 source to one or more first reactors to form a first product stream comprising formaldehyde;
- and
- reacting toluene with the first product stream in one or more second reactors to form a product stream comprising one or more of styrene or ethylbenzene;
- wherein the C1 source comprises one or more of methanol or formaldehyde;
- wherein the one or more second reactors comprises a catalyst based on a faujasite framework.
