A pharmaceutical dosage form with reduced susceptibility to counterfeiting comprising

• a Moiré pattern formed directly on a selected surface or interface of the pharmaceutical dosage form, the pattern providing a contrast visible by the human eye, wherein the pharmaceutical dosage form acts as the base layer of a Moiré pair and wherein a Moiré effect is seen by an observer by looking through a revealing layer formed on a transparent material, when the revealing layer is positioned relative to the base layer.

A pharmaceutical dosage form with reduced susceptibility to counterfeiting, made according to the following process:

• forming a Moiré pattern on a selected surface or interface of the pharmaceutical dosage form, the pattern providing a contrast visible by the human eye and acting as a base layer of a Moiré pair, such that when an observer looks through a revealing layer positioned relative to the base layer, a Moiré effect is observable.

A method of forming a pharmaceutical dosage form with reduced susceptibility to counterfeiting, comprising:

• forming a Moiré pattern directly on a selected surface or interface of the pharmaceutical dosage form, the pattern providing a contrast visible by the human eye, wherein the pharmaceutical dosage form acts as the base layer of a Moiré pair and wherein a Moiré effect is seen by an observer by looking through a revealing layer formed on a transparent material, when the revealing layer is positioned relative to the base layer.
