Abstract
An asymmetric (dual key) data obfuscation process, based on the well known ElGamal cryptosystem algorithm, and which uses multiplicative cyclic groups to transform (obfuscate) digital data for security purposes. In the present system the data need not be a member of the cyclic group, unlike in the ElGamal cryptosystem algorithm. Also, any one of several additional mathematical data transformations are further applied to the transformed data, thereby enhancing security of the transformed data.
Claims23
A method of transforming data, comprising the acts of:
- receiving the data at an input port;
- storing the data in a first computer readable storage medium coupled to the port;
- applying at a processor a data transformation to a portion of the stored data using a keyed cyclic group process thereby obscuring the data wherein the data is not a member of the group of the cyclic group process;
- and
- storing the resulting transformed keyed data in a second computer readable storage medium coupled to the processor.
Apparatus for transforming data, comprising:
- an input port adapted for receiving the data;
- a first computer readable storage medium coupled to the port adapted for storing the data;
- a processor applying a data transformation to a portion of the stored data using a keyed cyclic group process thereby obscuring the data, wherein the data is not a member of the group of the cyclic group process;
- and
- a second computer readable storage medium coupled to the processor adapted for storing the resulting transformed keyed data.
A method of recovering original data from obscured data, comprising the acts of:
- receiving the obscured data at an input port;
- storing the obscured data in a first computer readable storage medium coupled to the port;
- applying at a processor a data transformation to a portion of the stored obscured data using a keyed cyclic group process, thereby recovering the original data wherein the original data is not a member of the group of the cyclic group process;
- and
- storing the resulting original data in a second computer readable storage medium coupled to the processor.
Apparatus for recovering original data from obscured data, comprising the acts of:
- an input port adapted for receiving the obscured data;
- a first computer readable storage medium coupled to the port adapted for storing the obscured data;
- a processor applying a data transformation to a portion of the stored obscured data using a keyed cyclic group process recovering the original data, wherein the data is not a member of the group of the cyclic group process thereby;
- and
- a second computer readable storage medium coupled to the processor and adapted for storing the resulting original data.
