Abstract
The present invention relates to liquid-crystal (LC) media for use in LC displays of the PS (polymer stabilised) or PSA (polymer sustained alignment) type.

A LC display of the PS (polymer stabilised) or PSA (polymer sustained alignment) type containing a liquid-crystal (LC) mixture comprising one or more compounds of formula I
- in which
- R1 and R2 each, independently of one another, denote alkyl having 1 to 12 C atoms, in which one or two non-adjacent CH2 groups may be replaced by —O—, —CH═CH—, —CO—, —OCO— or —COO— in such a way that O atoms are not linked directly to one another, and
- L1 and L2 each, independently of one another, denote F, Cl, OCF3, CF3, CH2F, or CHF2.
A LC medium comprising
- a polymerizable component A) comprising one or more polymerizable compounds, and
- a liquid-crystalline component B) consisting of an LC mixture comprising one or more compounds of formula I
- in which
- R1 and R2 each, independently of one another, denote alkyl having 1 to 12 C atoms, in which one or two non-adjacent CH2 groups may be replaced by —O—, —CH═CH—, —CO—, —OCO— or —COO— in such a way that O atoms are not linked directly to one another, and
- L1 and L2 each, independently of one another, denote F, Cl, OCF3, CF3, CH2F, or CHF2.
A LC medium comprising
- a polymer obtainable by polymerization of a polymerizable component A) comprising one or more polymerizable compounds, and
- a liquid-crystalline component B) consisting of an LC mixture comprising one or more compounds of formula I
- in which
- R1 and R2 each, independently of one another, denote alkyl having 1 to 12 C atoms, in which one or two non-adjacent CH2 groups may be replaced by —O—, —CH═CH—, —CO—, —OCO— or —COO— in such a way that O atoms are not linked directly to one another, and
- L1 and L2 each, independently of one another, denote F, Cl, OCF3, CF3, CH2F, or CHF2.
A LC display comprising a LC cell consisting of two substrates and two electrodes, where at least one substrate is transparent to light and at least one substrate has one or two electrodes, and a layer, located between the substrates, of an LC medium comprising a polymerized component and a low-molecular-weight component, where the polymerized component is obtainable by polymerization of one or more polymerizable compounds in the LC medium between the substrates of the LC cell, optionally with application of an electrical voltage to the electrodes, and where the low-molecular-weight component is an LC mixture comprising one or more compounds of formula I
